Today is World Teachers' Day.
All of us carry with us memories of our great teachers. Today is a chance to reflect on their impact, and to stand up for this vital profession.
Since becoming a Member of Parliament, and now Shadow Assistant Minister for Schools, I have witnessed countless examples of teachers who put their students first – particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The unheralded contributions of so many teachers has made a huge mark on me, whether it is organising breakfast clubs, making sure students have uniforms and books, or just a passion to do anything to give every child, every chance of fulfilling their potential.
So on World Teachers’ Day, let’s commit to properly valuing and supporting teachers, and the incredible work they do.
